ATTESTATION OF DOCUMENTS/ INDIAN DRIVING LICENSE AUTHENTICATION

Embassy of India continues to provide Miscellaneous Consular Services through Postal mail/shipping.

How to Apply by Mail:

It is mandatory for the documents issued by the US authorities to be apostilled by the relevant authorities in the USA before presenting the document for attestation at the Embassy.

Download the Miscellaneous Application form and fill it up carefully. Each applicant is required to fill up separate Miscellaneous Application form and affix his/her photograph on the same.

Those having Indian passport may provide notarized photocopies of the first and last pages of the passport. Notarized photocopy of the passport page showing valid US visa status.

Notarized photocopy of any of the following documents as proof of residence: US Driving License, Utility Bill, Lease Agreement, State Identity Card, or Mortgage Deed.

Photocopies of these documents may be attached with the application.  Please ensure that photocopies of these documents are legible. Attestation of illegible/ scanned/photocopies of the documents will not be done.

All applicants who are Indian nationals requiring attestation of Indian passport, Pan Card, Aadhar Card, Voter ID, etc., they may submit a copy of the same. Documents which are not apostilled from India will not be authenticated by Embassy. Such documents will only be attested as ‘True Copy Attestation Only”. On each document to be attested, applicant will state that “I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT” and write full name and sign, as in the passport. For authentication of Indian driving licenses, please take a printout of your license details from the portal of the relevant transport authority in India and then submit the same for attestation by following the above steps.

In case of applicants of other nationalities, they may first get the documents apostilled by the US State Department/Authorities. Embassy will attest the documents for such categories of applicants only after those are apostilled. However, there is no need for the documents to be apostilled for OCI/PIO card holders. Such applicants may follow the same procedure for Indian nationals and enclose a notarized copy of OCI/PIO.

Fee:  A fee of US$ 10.00 (Ten only) and US$2.00(Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. For subsequent documents, US$ 10.00 (Ten only) each must be paid by applicant. The fees may be paid as two separate money order/cashiers’ cheque, drawn separately towards fee and ICWF in favour of Embassy of India, Washington DC.

Processing time: Ten working days from the date of receipt of mail at the Embassy, subject to submission of all requisite documents .

Please send in the application enclosing a trackable pre-paid self-addressed return mailing envelope to Consular Section, Embassy of India, 2536 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington DC 20008. Incomplete applications will be sent back indicating the requisites to complete the application.
