REGISTRATION OF BIRTH 

Birth (out of India) of a new born child to Indian parents should be first registered at following MHA website, where details/procedure are available

As a next step, birth of the new born should be registered at the Embassy in order to obtain the Indian passport. The registration of birth must be done at the Embassy within one year of the Child's birth. 

How to Apply in Person: 

1.

Download the Miscellaneous Application form and fill it up carefully along with the completed Birth Registration Form.

2.

Two copies of the print out of duly filled in, online MHA application form referred above, signed by both parents, same as in their current passport, in front of the Consular Officer at Embassy.

3.

Original and self-attested, by both parents, copy of the Birth Certificate of new born child issued by local authorities along with a photocopy.

4.

Self Sworn Affidavit of both parents that they have not taken any other nationality for the child.

5.

Self Sworn Affidavit (NOC) of both parents that they have no objection to the registration and obtaining passport for the child.

6.

Current Indian passports of both parents, in original and photocopy of the first five pages and last two pages. Original and photocopy of the document showing valid US Visa Status.

7.

Fee: A fee of US$25.00(Twenty-Five Only) and an additional fee of US$2.00 (Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. The fees may be paid in cash or as money order/cashiers’ cheque, drawn separately towards fee and ICWF, in favour of Embassy of India, Washington DC.

Processing Time: Same day, however, if unforeseen technical reasons occur, services can be delayed till those problems are resolved.

 How to Apply by Mail: 

1.

Follow the same procedure to fill up the application and enclose the same required documents as detailed above in the section ‘how to apply in person’ and send in the application enclosing a trackable pre-paid self-addressed return mailing envelope. Incomplete applications will be send back indicating the requisites to complete those. Please note that while applying by mail two copies of the print out of duly filled in, online application form from MHA Website signed by both parents needs to be notarized and signatures of parents should be same as in their current passport.

2.

Fee: A fee of US$25.00(Twenty-Five Only) and an additional fee of US$2.00 (Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. The fee may be paid only as money order/cashiers’ cheque, drawn separately towards fee and ICWF, in favour of Embassy of India, Washington DC.

3.

Processing time: Ten working days from the date of receipt of mail at the Embassy subject to submission of all requisite documents by applicants.
