Tragic loss of U.S. Space Shuttle Columbia

The sad news of Columbia’s loss has shocked us all. Kalpana Chawla an
Indian-American was among the astronauts on board the ill-fated flight. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, as also to the next of kin of those astronauts who perished with her.  May God give them the courage to bear this tragic bereavement. These brave astronauts were pioneers and led the way; their indomitable spirit shall continue to guide future endeavors in space discovery.

The External Affairs Minister Shri Yashwant Sinha expressed his shock and grief at the tragic loss of life of US Space Shuttle Colombia.

Kalpana Chawla’s outstanding achievements success and determination to further the frontiers of scientific knowledge had made her a symbol of pride for the Indian American and the people of India. Mr. Sinha conveys his deepest condolences to her family and loved ones and to the families of her crewmates.
