Press Release on Interfaith prayer and candle light vigil

The Embassy of India and the Indian-American Community held an Interfaith Prayer meeting and a Candle light vigil at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in front of the Embassy today. The well-attended function was held to mark the Day of Solidarity against terrorism observed by the Government of India.

The occasion commenced with brief remarks by Ambassador Lalit Mansingh followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States. This was followed by readings from Holy Scriptures of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism and Zoroastrian. The gathering then proceeded to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial at which Candles were lit in the memory of those who died and in sympathy for the bereaved families.
