External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna's visit to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly

Shri S. M. Krishna, Minister of External Affairs of India arrived in New York in the evening of Sunday, 20th September 2009 to participate in the High-Level Segment of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly [UNGA]. The Minister’s official engagements will begin on 22nd September when he will represent the Prime Minister at a High Level Event on Climate Change being hosted by the UN Secretary General [UNSG] at the sidelines of the UNGA. EAM will lead the Indian delegation at the General Debate of the 64th UNGA and will deliver a speech in the afternoon of 26th September. 

On the margins of the UNGA, EAM will also have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from some countries. 

The other events along the margins of the UNGA at which the Indian delegation will participate include: 

• XIV Summit Meeting of the Group of Fifteen (G-15) (25 September) preceded by Ministerial meeting (24 September)

• IBSA Ministerial Meeting by Brazil (21 September)

• G-5 Meeting (22 September)

• Ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of the UNSG on Myanmar (23 September) 

• Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Ministerial Meeting on Terrorism (24 September) 

• BRIC luncheon meeting by Brazil (24 September)

• High Level Meeting on 60th anniversary of establishment of UNRWA (24 September)

• Fifth India-GCC Political Dialogue (25 September)

• Group of 77 (G-77) Ministerial Meeting (25 September)

• Informal Meeting of SAARC Council of Ministers (26 September) 

• Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the Alliance of Civilizations (26 September)

EAM will conclude his visit with an interaction with the media on 27th September 2009.
